Hawk at Marvin Brook

We took Miss Annabelle to Marvin Brook in Woodstock NB too cool off in the water, Just as we stepped out of the Jeep I heard a big splash and seen this beauty dive into the water after a fish.  Unfortunately I did not have my camera ready.

My Daughter enjoying some much needed cool of time in the brook!  What a great place to come visit for the afternoon,

Day on the Meduxnekeag

We went to spend a beautiful Saturday at a local hang out spot on the Meduxnekeag River in Woodstock NB.  This is a great place for fishing, bird watching, hiking swimmin tubing or just taken in some sun rays. The Meuxnekeag River originates from the Meduxnekeag lake located in New Limerick Maine the lake is also know the the local ppl of New Limerick as Drews Lake.  The river is approximately 56 km long.

On the Canadian site of the boarder the watershed of the meduxnekeag is home to one of the largest mature Appalachian Hardwood Forest in Atlantic Canada.  The forest is home to many rare plants in province such as  black raspberry, wild ginger, showy orchids and wild coffee just to name a few.  

Since 1998 the Meduxnekeag River association based in Woodstock NB has purchased approximately 500 acres of forest including close to 4 miles of undeveloped shorelines.

Large sections of the River are easy to canoe and kayak and annual canoe races are held on both sides of the boarder.  Many recreational canoeist put in canoes just below the bridge on the North Branch a typical half day canoe trip would consist of passing through beautiful scenic country and some wide spread wetland sure to get a climbs of a moose, bear etc.

Saturday Afternoon Road Bumble

After a long hard week at work I finally had a Saturday day and decided to go on a little road bumble on some of the old logging roads just of the Hanwell NB.  I can honestly say if you take your time and actually just stop and take a breath of fresh air it amazes me what a person will see.  Nature sure paints a beautiful picture, some of those paintings that nature creates took may years to accomplish and will never be completed.

This place would be great for bird watching, hiking, atving, you name it ...and of course hunting and fishing.

I love to WATCH frogs not meaning I would like to hold one or come to close as they also creep me out but sure love to just sit and watch them do absolutely do nothing and thinking how cool it would be just to be a frog and hang out in the water all day...lol

Seen some Blue Flags not sure that is the correct name however it is for me today...lol they had a bunch of bugs on them but were still a nice sight to see...

We came across a semi washed out bridge but was a great place to hang out for a few minutes wish i would have brought some fly spray or coils so I could have stayed longer there but I am pretty sure if we stayed longer somebody would have just found my skeleton as the horse flies would have licked my bones dried...lol

Came across another little bridge over the Lyons stream nice place to hang out put once again WHERE was the fly spray.....oh yeah at home on the deck....lol

Down by the stream the 2 children found a stick and looks to me they were trying to figure out what kind....lol

We kept on driving and came across a great beaver house the front door was open we knocked but unfortunately nobody was home....lol

Pinder Falls/Dam

Pinder Falls

N 46 02’ 43.4” W 67 14’ 20.4”

The dam was built to hold water for a local paper mill which is long gone, however remnants of an old mill situated on the East Branch Nackawic Stream can still be seen at this dam in Pinder NB.

These Falls are relatively easy to get to, from Fredericton head towards Nackawic take Route 105 until you see the sign for Temperance Vale and Caverhill. Turn onto route 605 and drive approximately 5 km until you cross the Nackawic Stream.  The waterfall/dam will be on the right side.

Great little spot to take a fishing pole along and just hang out for a couple of hours the NB ATV runs right adjacent and makes for a great walking trail!

Gibson's dam

 This dam was built in 1920 by the Cotton Plant.  The falls are located about 1.2 km out the River Road in Marysville, there will be a gate on the right park there and walk a short distance up the road the dam will be on the right.

Fundy National Park (Dickson Falls)

Fundy National Park is located on the Bay of Fundy, not to far from the small fishing village of of Alma, New Brunswick. The Park offers many hiking trails with board-walks waterfalls and many species of wild life.

Coac Falls

To visit the Coac Falls, drive along Route 105 heading south from the junction of Route 605 in Nackawic, passing route 610 to Upper Caverhill until crossing Coac Stream a distance of roughly 7 km. The Lower Caverhill Road is an old logging road . Park along the highway and start hiking up the Lower Caverhill Road.  You will meet a woods road on the left hand side follow this road until you come to  a rope crossing  the road.  Take the right hand side road and follow it  until  you come to an ATV trail on the left. This trail will lead you down into the ravine to the falls you should be able to hear the rumbling falls from here.  The whole hiking trip is roughly 3 km its a moderate hike and good foot wear and bug spray is highly recommended.  I would also mention we went during hunting season and a hunting vest is recommend as this area is well hunted...lol found out the hard way!

To get to Coac Falls\ you can follow these directions:

1. Take the Nackawic exit on Route 2 between Fredericton and Woodstock.
2. Head towards Nackawic and cross the large bridge over the St. John River.
3. Continue straight until you pass a Robin’s Donuts and Irving Gas Station.
4. You will then descend a large hill to a second, smaller bridge.

After this point, the trail to Coac Falls begins as an old road that is not maintained but still in good shape. If you have a vehicle with good clearance, you can drive for about 574 meters until you find an older crossover road on your left. Park your car without blocking ATV traffic and follow this side road for 336 meters. Then, turn right on another road and continue for another 477 meters to the next junction. Keep right at the junction, and after about 1.3 kilometers, you will come to a long narrow clearing. Just before this clearing on the left, there is a steep ATV trail that leads down to the falls

Please be cautious on the climb down as it’s quite steep with loose gravel. The falls are impressive, tumbling 21 meters (69 feet) down over a series of steps cut out of the angled rock face For a detailed trail guide and map, you can visit the Hiking NB website. Remember to bring proper shoes as the trail can get muddy, and it’s recommended to record your route to avoid getting lost.
